The former home of Rush CBD, on Brisbane’s Queen St overlooking Post Office Square, is set to get a new lease on life as a light and bright eatery and bar called Isles Lane.

The operators behind the metamorphosis are Trent Meade and Matthew Blyth, owners of The Met and GPO Hotel, who are transitioning from nightclubs and moving into bars and food and beverage.

Isles Lane is due to be unveiled on April 9.

“The Rush fit-out doesn’t really talk to the park,” says Meade.

“We see an opportunity to have a light, open verdant space that connects with an iconic park in the middle of the CBD.”

The Isles Lane name references the laneway which runs beneath the park.

“Technically it flows under – if you come in off Isles Lane you’d be underneath the site,” he says.

Sydney’s award-winning AZB Creative is designing the venue which will have around 250 seats inside, with another 50 alfresco.

Meade says they’re talking to Brisbane City Council about future opportunities for outdoor dining and activations of the grassy park.

Lucie Woods, former Rush chef will remain in the kitchen, but the menu is morphing along with the fit-out.

“We’re describing it as fine casual micro gastropub,” says Meade.

“There will be a relaxed environment, but produce will be more refined, and the dishes will be well thought out. It will be all about sharing.”

We can expect the likes of crab Rangoon, zucchini fritters, sweet potato churros with homemade ketchup and more, he says. A raw bar will also feature, dishing up everything from ceviche to bugs and oysters. Casual lunchtime snacks ranging from prawn rolls to barbecue chicken will be on offer.

The duo is planning to open a second venture in Fortitude Valley in September.
